Ukrainian Interior Minister: Counter-Terrorism Ops Continue

The counter-terrorism operation in southeast Ukraine continues, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said in a Facebook post.

“There has been no halt in the counter-terrorism operation due to the threat of invasion by the Russian armed forces, as some media reported over-hastily. That is untrue. The operation continues,” Avakov said. “The terrorists will need to be on their guard around the clock. Civilians have nothing to fear.”

Avakov said no political party, association or civic movement has been allowed to get involved in the counter-terrorism operation, which is a joint effort by the interior ministry, the security service and the military.

“Any reports that this is the case are untrue," he said.

This was a reference to reports that Right Sector group was taking part in the operation.

"Contrary to the rumours, only a small proportion of the Counter-Terrorism Centre’s forces have been deployed in today’s operations. No tanks or other heavy hardware are being used. The Centre has enough forces to allow for troop rotations and for round-the-clock operations if necessary,” the minister added.
