Kharkiv Mayor Injured in Shooting

Kharkiv mayor Gennady Kernes was the target of an assassination attempt at about midday on April 28, the city council’s press office reports.

“The city head of Kharkiv was shot in the back with a firearm. He is now on the operating table at the emergency hospital. Doctors are fighting for his life,” the report said.

Zurab Alasania, the head of Ukrainian National Television and a Kharkiv native, says the attack happened while Kernes was bathing in a spring.

“Kharkiv’s mayor Gennady Kernes has never changed his habit of bathing at the Sarzhin Yar springs. So they were waiting for him there,” Alasania writes. “The Russian Federation is identifying key resistance points, and liquidating them.”
